San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site Museum

In 1823, Stephen F. Austin established San Felipe de Austin as the provisional government capital of Texas colony. The community was the social, economic and political center of Anglo colonies in Texas. To recognize and interpret the site’s history, a 10,000 SF state of the art museum was funded by the Texas Historic Commission.

Working with a local limestone quarry, we designed a generously sized lueders limestone path and plaza for the front entry. Additional scope items included exterior lighting design, custom benches, view-screening berms covered with coastal prairie grasses, and beautiful parking lot rain gardens that were designed in conjunction. Working closely with the county transportation department helped determine which native species were best suited for restoration of the site.

Work completed while Colter Sonneville was employed as a senior associate at Asakura Robinson.
